| Maramady at Adoor !
A marvellous event of bull power and exquisite control by the 3 men team. Two strong runners flank the bulls on either side with guide ropes and a wooden whip. The third is a jockey( obscured by the spray but sitting in the middle of the two bulls in this shot) who rides a small wooden platform which slides over the mud and the water.
Held every year around the time of Onam it is a celebration of agrarian existence and is carried on without any grants or aid from the Government, this is a spectacular fiesta of rural Kerala. There are 2-3 other such events held elsewhere in Kerala. |
